Security agencies in Lagos have arrested two men suspected of belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), highlighting concerns about the group’s potential spread beyond Nigeria’s North-east.
The suspects, identified as Modu Gana and Ibrahim Dugge, were apprehended on Sunday morning in the Apapa area by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
A security source familiar with the operation said the arrests, which occurred around 8:45 a.m., were based on actionable intelligence. The suspects are believed to have fled the insurgency-affected North-east and relocated to Lagos under circumstances that attracted security attention.
The men are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. “This was an intelligence-driven operation. Investigations are ongoing to determine their movements, contacts, and possible objectives within Lagos,” the source added.
As of now, there is no evidence indicating that the suspects were planning an attack in the commercial city. Security agencies have heightened vigilance across key locations and continue to monitor the situation closely.
