Two private schools in Lagos, Avi-Cenna International School and Grange School, have temporarily halted physical classes on Thursday after receiving a bomb threat.
Reports indicate that Avi-Cenna International School alerted parents and guardians via a notice signed by its management representative, Paul Olubajo, explaining that the school had received a threatening text message warning of a possible explosion. The statement said security agencies were immediately contacted, prompting the deployment of a specialized police unit to inspect the school premises.
Although security operatives later confirmed that the environment was safe, the school decided to suspend on-site activities for the day as a precaution. The management emphasized its commitment to safeguarding students, staff, and the wider school community, assuring parents that further communication would be shared if necessary.
Grange School also announced a temporary closure, stating that while no direct danger had been identified, the decision was taken in the interest of safety. The school added that virtual learning would continue for applicable classes.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that a thorough security operation was carried out at both schools.
According to police spokespersons, the exercise was led by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, alongside officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, as well as the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
The police reported that no explosives or dangerous materials were found during the sweep. Authorities also disclosed that investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the individual responsible for sending the threat.
