Two of the three laboratories authorised by the Magistrate Court Ikorodu have refused to conduct paternity testing on the alleged son of late singer Mohbad, Liam.
The refusal comes amid a legal dispute between Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, and his widow, Wunmi, over confirmation of paternity.
Three weeks ago, the Magistrate Court approved three laboratories, two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States, to conduct the DNA tests. The court independently selected Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, while Wunmi nominated Alpha Bio Labs. Mohbad’s father chose DNA Diagnostics Centre.
However, Oladayo Ogungbe stated on Thursday that both UK-based labs declined, citing their inability to perform post-mortem DNA tests on embalmed bodies. This conclusion followed preliminary inquiries made by representatives of Joseph Aloba to verify the technical capacity of the laboratories.
Mohbad, a prominent Nigerian singer, passed away under mysterious circumstances in September 2023 and was buried the following day. His body was later exhumed after seven days following public outcry and demands for clarity surrounding his death.
The current dispute revolves around confirming whether Liam is Mohbad’s biological son, with his father insisting on a DNA test to settle the matter. Only the lab in the United States remains positioned to carry out the testing, pending court directives.
