Two people were killed on Thursday in an attack at the Allenby Bridge crossing, the main border point between Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Israeli officials confirmed.
Emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) said the victims—men aged about 20 and 60—sustained critical injuries during the assault and later died despite resuscitation efforts.
“Our teams provided immediate treatment at the scene and continued intensive care, including resuscitation, but sadly we had to pronounce them dead,” an MDA medic said.
Security forces at the scene “neutralised” the assailant, who was reportedly armed with both a gun and a knife.
According to Israel’s Channel 12 television, the attacker was a Jordanian national who arrived at the crossing in a truck loaded with aid bound for the Gaza Strip.
He allegedly opened fire and stabbed his victims before being stopped. Broadcast images showed a blood-stained knife and a firearm lying on the ground.
The Israeli military confirmed the incident, stating it was investigating the circumstances of the attack.
The Allenby Bridge, located in the Jordan Valley, is the only international crossing point available to Palestinians in the West Bank that does not require entering Israel.
The crossing has long been a flashpoint, given its strategic importance and heavy traffic.
Thursday’s attack comes less than a year after a similar deadly incident at the same crossing. In September 2024, a Jordanian truck driver shot and killed three Israeli guards before being gunned down.
