Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) on Tuesday confirmed that an aircraft carrying 12 people crashed in Kwale County, along the country’s southern coast.
In an official statement, the authority said the plane was travelling from Diani to Kichwa Tembo when the accident occurred. Emergency response teams and relevant government agencies have been deployed to the crash site to assess the situation and determine the cause of the incident.
Details regarding casualties or survivors were not immediately available, as investigations are still underway.
Kwale, a popular coastal region near the Indian Ocean, is known for its tourism activities, with Diani serving as one of Kenya’s busiest private airstrips connecting the coast to safari destinations like the Maasai Mara, where Kichwa Tembo is located.
