
Mohamed Ben Romdhane’s stoppage-time strike sealed Tunisia’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the Carthage Eagles edged Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on Monday.
The midfielder, who plays for Egyptian giants Al Ahly, netted in the 94th minute after being teed up by Firas Chaouat, sending Tunisia to their seventh World Cup appearance.
Victory in Malabo left the North Africans with 22 points from eight games, an insurmountable lead in Group H. Namibia, who sit second with a game in hand, remain 10 points adrift and cannot catch Tunisia.
The Carthage Eagles fielded players drawn from nine different leagues, including Hannibal Mejbri of Premier League club Burnley. The squad is led by Sami Trabelsi, a former defender who captained Tunisia at the 1998 World Cup in France.
Elsewhere, Morocco preserved their perfect record in Group E with a 2-0 win over Zambia, thanks to goals from Youssef En Nesyri and Hamza Igamane. In Maputo, Mozambique defeated Botswana 2-0, a result that prevented Algeria from sealing early qualification from Group G even with a potential victory away to Guinea later in the day.
