Amid continued U.S.–Iran talks in Pakistan, President Donald Trump has dismissed the importance of any final agreement, claiming victory in the conflict.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump said Washington remained in “very deep negotiations” with Tehran but insisted the outcome would not change the United States’ position.
“It makes no difference to me whether we reach a deal or not, we’ve already won.
“We win regardless. We’ve defeated them militarily”, Trump added.
His comments came as U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, led the American delegation in Islamabad, where discussions with Iranian officials continued into a second day.
Trump also repeated claims that US naval forces had begun operations in the Strait of Hormuz, saying efforts were underway to clear the vital waterway of mines and secure passage for global shipping.
“We have minesweepers out there. We’re sweeping the strait”, he said, adding that the move was intended to keep international trade routes open.
Iran has denied the claims, amid ongoing tensions over the strategic waterway, which carries a significant share of global oil shipments and remains a key chokepoint in global energy supply chains.
Trump also criticised NATO allies, accusing them of failing to support the United States during the war and not being consulted on key decisions.
“We were not helped by NATO, that I can tell you”, he said.
The developments come as international observers continue to warn that tensions in the Gulf region could disrupt global energy flows, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining one of the world’s most strategically sensitive maritime corridors.
