President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed that his son, Barron Trump, is an admirer of global football star Cristiano Ronaldo. The revelation came after Ronaldo met the teenager ahead of being honoured by Trump during a formal White House dinner on Tuesday night.
Ronaldo attended the high-profile event as part of the delegation accompanying Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, who was hosted in Washington DC.
The Al Nassr captain arrived with his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, for the state dinner, marking one of his rare public appearances in the United States. The 40-year-old football icon was dressed in a black tuxedo and was seated among notable figures including tech billionaire Elon Musk and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
Trump referenced Ronaldo during his ceremonial address, noting that the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward had earlier been introduced to Barron, who is known to be a passionate football enthusiast.
“This room is loaded up with the biggest leaders in the world – business, sports…” Trump said.
“My son is a big fan of Ronaldo… Barron got to meet him and I think he respects his father a little bit more now – just the fact that I introduced you. So I just want to thank you both for being here.”
Ronaldo’s visit to Washington came just days after he was shown a red card during Portugal’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Ireland, resulting in his suspension for the subsequent fixture against Armenia.
Despite his absence, Portugal secured victory on Sunday, confirming their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
