US President Donald Trump has said Israel will not carry out further attacks on Iran’s South Pars gas field unless Tehran launches additional strikes, following what he described as a “violent” Israeli response in the escalating conflict.
In a post addressing the latest developments, Trump said Israel had already acted forcefully after recent tensions in the Middle East, while warning Iran against targeting Qatar again.
“Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran,” Trump said.
“NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar.”
The warning follows Wednesday’s strike on the South Pars gas field, part of the world’s largest natural gas reserve shared by Iran and Qatar, which triggered a surge in global oil prices and heightened fears over energy supply disruptions.
Iran responded by launching missile strikes across the Gulf, targeting energy infrastructure in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, further escalating tensions in the region.
QatarEnergy reported “extensive damage” and “sizeable fires” at the Ras Laffan Industrial City, a critical hub that processes a significant share of the world’s liquefied natural gas supply.
Despite the escalation, Trump insisted the United States had no prior knowledge of Israel’s strike on South Pars, even as reports suggested Washington may have been aware of the plans.
“Unfortunately, Iran did not know this, or any of the pertinent facts pertaining to the South Pars attack, and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar’s LNG Gas facility,” Trump said.
He also issued a stark warning that any further Iranian aggression could trigger a massive US response targeting the same gas field.
“In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
The conflict has intensified disruption to global energy markets, with the Strait of Hormuz a key route for about a fifth of global oil trade facing continued threats.
