U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Microsoft to immediately dismiss its President of Global Affairs, Lisa Monaco, a former senior official in Democratic administrations, accusing her of posing a threat to national security.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco… Her having access to highly sensitive information is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand.”
Monaco, who previously served as Deputy Attorney General under President Joe Biden, oversaw cases in which Trump himself faced legal scrutiny. Trump argued that her current role at Microsoft — a company with major U.S. government contracts — is a security risk, claiming she has already been stripped of all security clearances and barred from federal properties.
“She is a menace to U.S. National Security,” Trump asserted, warning against her continued influence in a senior corporate role with access to confidential information.
The demand comes as Trump escalates action against political rivals and critics. On Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey, a longtime Trump adversary, was indicted on two criminal counts. Trump has since hinted that more indictments against opponents may follow.
The president’s call for Monaco’s dismissal also ties back to his own history with federal investigations. After leaving the White House in 2021, Trump faced multiple probes — including the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid in 2022 over classified documents and Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case accusing him of attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
Both cases were dropped after Trump’s 2024 election victory, in line with Justice Department policy not to prosecute a sitting president.
