US President Donald Trump has criticised the Super Bowl halftime show headlined by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, describing the performance as “absolutely terrible” in a social media post on Sunday.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, led the Super Bowl LX halftime show in Santa Clara, California, bringing Spanish language lyrics and reggaeton rhythms to one of American sport’s biggest stages.
Following the performance, Trump took to Truth Social to voice his displeasure.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” Trump wrote. “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.”
The president had previously criticised Bad Bunny’s selection weeks before the event, calling the decision to make him the halftime headliner “absolutely ridiculous.”
The 31 year old artist has been openly critical of Trump’s deportation policies and publicly supported Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election campaign. His most recent album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, won Album of the Year at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Amid the controversy, conservative organisation Turning Point USA staged an alternative event dubbed the “All American Halftime Show,” featuring Kid Rock and other performers. The group promoted the concert as a counterpoint to the official halftime show.
Turning Point USA was founded by Trump ally Charlie Kirk. The event was promoted on X by several Trump aligned figures, including US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who reposted the group’s announcement with the caption: “The Hegseth family is watching.”
At halftime of the Super Bowl game, Seattle were leading New England 9-0.
