Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has opened up about his discussions with teammates regarding Nigeria’s quest for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s playoff semi-final against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco, Troost-Ekong said he is eager to help Nigeria qualify for the global tournament.
“I did tell them what my experience was. And I am very much hungry for another time at the world stage,” he said, responding to a post by Victor Ademola.
Troost-Ekong emphasized the squad’s focus and determination, noting that players frequently discuss their World Cup ambitions, and that he shares his own experiences to inspire the younger members.
“Nothing has changed from the games that we played before March. We still have to win these games,” he added, highlighting the collective desire to make a mark on the international stage.
Should Nigeria overcome Gabon, they will face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoff final for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
