Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has highlighted four players he considers leaders within the national team following Nigeria’s 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff semi-final.
Goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, and a brace from Victor Osimhen sealed an emphatic win for Nigeria in Rabat, Morocco. Mario Lemina’s strike proved only a consolation for the Panthers.
The win sets up a decisive playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Troost-Ekong said the Super Eagles are rich in leadership, naming Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon as key figures in the squad.
“We have multiple leaders in this team. Victor Osimhen is a leader in his own right, and we also have Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Moses Simon,” he said.
“We have players who are really coming of age and showing what they can do.”
The Super Eagles will aim to secure their place in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup when they take on DR Congo in Sunday’s final.
