Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralised two suspected armed terrorists during a tactical operation along the Akunu–Auga-Akoko Road in Ondo State.
The operation, carried out on Saturday by soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Auga-Akoko, followed credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected criminal elements within the area.
In a statement issued on Monday in Akure, the Brigade’s spokesperson, Major Irabor Njoka, said troops acted swiftly on the intelligence, mobilising to intercept the suspects.
“The ensuing encounter resulted in a firefight. The troops’ superior firepower led to the neutralisation of two of the terrorists, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds,” he stated.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, and local vigilante groups, underscoring ongoing inter-agency cooperation in tackling insecurity.
Major Njoka disclosed that several items were recovered at the scene, including one AK-47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash, among other personal belongings.
He described the outcome as a testament to the Army’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of movement and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
The Brigade reaffirmed its resolve to intensify collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to sustain a secure environment in Ondo State.
Residents were also urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as public cooperation remains vital to ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal activities in the region.
