Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have uncovered a substantial cache of high-caliber 12.7mm ammunition in the Bulumkutu Railway area of Maiduguri, Borno State. This discovery is part of ongoing, intelligence-driven security operations aimed at countering criminal and terrorist activities in the North-East, especially following a series of recent interventions that have led to the neutralization and apprehension of multiple suicide bombers.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, disclosed the details in an official statement. He emphasized that the successful recovery was enabled by actionable intelligence and the vigilance of both military personnel and local residents.
On January 2, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., troops received a distress call regarding suspicious metallic objects concealed within a drainage channel in the Bulumkutu Railway area. Acting promptly, the troops mobilized to the scene along with members of the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to secure the area and assess potential threats.
A thorough search led to the recovery of a total of 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, including live rounds and power banks, all hidden within the drainage channel. Lieutenant Colonel Uba noted that preliminary safety measures were implemented to secure the site, and efforts are ongoing to completely drain the channel to identify any additional hazardous materials that may be concealed there.
He confirmed that no casualties or incidents occurred during the operation, and the overall security situation in the area remains stable. Troops continue to enforce a presence in the locality to prevent any attempts by criminal or terrorist elements to reclaim the retrieved items.
This successful operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led military initiatives and community cooperation in preemptively neutralizing potential threats. “The timely information provided by the public was pivotal to this operation’s success,” Lieutenant Colonel Uba remarked, reiterating that collective security is a shared responsibility essential for community safety in the region.
