Nollywood actress and producer Toyin Abraham has scored a major box office success with her latest film, Oversabi Aunty, which opened to N99.8 million in its first weekend in cinemas.
The figure places the comedy as the second-highest opening Nollywood film of 2025, underscoring strong audience interest and momentum ahead of the new movie season.
Oversabi Aunty also represents a significant career milestone for Abraham, marking her first feature-length directorial debut for the big screen. The film centres on a kind-hearted but overly intrusive woman whose attempts to solve other people’s problems spiral into a mix of comic confusion and emotional self-discovery.
Buzz around the project began ahead of its nationwide release, following an advanced screening held on December 18. The early showing helped build anticipation, setting the stage for its cinema debut across Nigeria on December 19.
The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele and popular content creator Enioluwa Adeoluwa, among others, adding to its broad appeal across different audience demographics.
Reacting to the strong opening performance, Abraham took to social media to appreciate moviegoers and supporters, describing the turnout as deeply humbling and crediting fans for showing up in large numbers. She noted that the reception means a great deal to her, particularly as it is her first major directorial outing in cinemas.
With its early box office performance and positive word-of-mouth, Oversabi Aunty is expected to remain a strong contender in Nigerian cinemas in the coming weeks.
