Tottenham Hotspur have expressed full support for their 22-year-old Italian international defender, Destiny Udogie, and his family following reports that he was threatened with a gun in London.
According to police, a 31-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with the September incident as investigations continue.
A Tottenham spokesperson, in a statement released on Tuesday, said:
“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so.
Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
Authorities confirmed that officers were called on the night of September 6 to a north London suburb known to be home to several Tottenham and Arsenal players, following reports that a man in his 20s had been threatened with a firearm.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added:
“Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation, it was also reported another man in his 20s had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, September 8, on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence.”
Despite the ordeal, Udogie featured in Tottenham’s 4-0 Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen at home on Tuesday night, demonstrating remarkable composure amid the ongoing investigation.
