Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has paid tribute to veteran gospel minister Toun Soetan following her death at the age of 73.
Alabi honoured the late singer in an emotional post shared on Instagram, describing Soetan as a spiritual guide and a respected figure in gospel music.
According to her, Soetan’s life and ministry reflected a deep commitment to Christian faith and service.
“A true spiritual mother and a matriarch in gospel music,” Alabi wrote.
“Her life was a reflection of Christ, and her impact in the gospel music ministry will never be forgotten. She lived for Christ and preached Him through her life and music.”

News of Soetan’s passing was confirmed on Friday by gospel comedian Woli Agba in a social media post.
Tributes have since poured in from fans and members of the gospel community, many celebrating her decades of dedication to ministry through music.
A Legacy in Gospel Music
Soetan was widely known for gospel songs such as “Train Up Your Child” and “Darling Jesus.” Over the course of more than four decades, she built a reputation as a passionate gospel minister whose music resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
Born in Lagos, Soetan was raised in a Muslim household before converting to Christianity in 1974. Her conversion later shaped a lifelong commitment to gospel music and Christian ministry.
Throughout her career, she remained an influential voice in Nigeria’s gospel music scene, inspiring younger artists and worshippers through her songs and teachings.
Remembering a Gospel Matriarch
Alabi said although Soetan’s passing is painful for many who admired her, believers take comfort in her faith and legacy.
“Though we will miss her, we are comforted knowing she has gone to be with the Lord. Rest well, Mama. Your legacy lives on,” she wrote.
The late gospel singer is survived by her husband, family members and a wide network of gospel ministers and followers who continue to celebrate her life and contributions.
