Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has stirred conversation across social media after advising new mothers to limit how often they bathe their newborns.
In a video shared on her social platforms, Makinwa, who recently welcomed her first child at age 40, said daily baths could be harsh on a baby’s skin. She argued that newborns are naturally clean and do not accumulate dirt the way adults do.
According to her, newborn skin is “fragile,” and excessive exposure to water may lead to irritation. She explained that she opts for gentle wiping instead of full baths each day, adding that the approach has worked well for her.
“Babies aren’t dirty or sweaty,” she said in the video. “They’ve spent months in the womb, and it’s not a dirty environment. That’s why I don’t bathe my baby every day.”
Her remarks have prompted mixed reactions online. While some mothers agreed with her stance, others questioned her experience and challenged the basis of her advice, noting that she is not a healthcare professional.
The discussion continues to trend, drawing comments from parents, medical practitioners and fans alike.
