Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has stated that she isn’t comfortable being called the “Queen of Afrobeats,” highlighting that many other female artists also deserve the recognition.
Speaking in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Savage explained that while she values the admiration from fans, she does not accept the tag because of the responsibilities it carries.
“Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us that are Queens. Personally, I don’t like that tag, it’s uncomfortable because I feel like if I start accepting it, I need to be humble,” she said.
The singer added that the nickname likely stems from her being one of the first female Nigerian artists to achieve mainstream success, a milestone she appreciates without taking for granted.
