In response to deadly attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA, Kwara State, President Bola Tinubu has condemned the violence and directed the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to restore security.
The President met with Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to receive a detailed briefing on the incident, which reportedly left 75 people dead after militants targeted residents who rejected attempts at forced indoctrination. The governor described the victims as local Muslims “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine”.
Tinubu praised the courage and resilience of the affected communities, noting that villagers refused to be coerced into extremist beliefs. “It is commendable that the community members stood firm against violence and upheld peace and dialogue. Nigeria will never surrender its people to terrorism masquerading as faith”, he said.
He confirmed that the deployed Army battalion, operating under Operation Savannah Shield, will neutralize the terrorists and protect vulnerable communities in the area.
The President also called for close collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide relief to victims and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
“We will protect our communities, defend our values, and defeat those who seek to divide us through terror. They will not go scot-free”, Tinubu added.
He concluded by offering prayers for the deceased, condolences to bereaved families, and assurances of the Federal Government’s continued support for Kwara State and its affected communities.
