
The University of Ilorin has announced that former Lagos State Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, will deliver its 40th Convocation Lecture, while President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission newly completed projects on the institution’s campus as part of the week-long convocation activities.
According to a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mansur Alfanla, on Thursday, the week-long programme will run from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Fashola’s lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the University Auditorium at 9:00 a.m.
The Registrar further revealed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission several newly completed projects on the University campus as part of the week-long celebrations.
The convocation ceremonies will commence on Friday, October 17, with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque at 1:00 p.m., while an Interdenominational Church Service will be held on Sunday, October 19, at the Chapel of the Light, University Campus.
On Monday, October 20, the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole, SAN, will address a World Press Conference at the University Auditorium to highlight the institution’s achievements in the past year and outline key expectations for the convocation week.
The Convocation Play, titled “Joromi,” will take centre stage on Tuesday, October 21, at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The first session of the convocation, for graduands of four-year programmes and diploma students, will take place immediately after the Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, October 22, at the University Auditorium.
On Thursday, October 23, the convocation for five and six-year programmes as well as postgraduate graduands will hold, followed by the investiture of Emeritus Professors.
The day’s event will culminate in the commissioning of projects by President Tinubu at 1:30 p.m., with the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon to follow at 4:00 pm.
The convocation week will conclude with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, both at 9:00 a.m.
Alfanla assured that the University management had made adequate arrangements to ensure the smooth execution of all activities.
He also congratulated the graduating students and their families for their academic success and expressed the University’s commitment to upholding its tradition of excellence.
The 40th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, including government officials, academics, parents, and members of the alumni community.
