President Bola Tinubu is set to serve as the special guest of honour at the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Kebbi State on Saturday, February 2026. The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
During his one-day visit, President Tinubu will also inaugurate several development projects completed by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris. The festival, one of Africa’s most prominent cultural events, will take place along the historic Matan Fada riverside, which UNESCO recognizes as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Originally scheduled for February 2025, the festival was postponed to 2026 following consultations with key stakeholders. Deputy Governor and Chairman of the 2025 Festival Committee, Senator Umar Abubakar-Tafida, explained that the rescheduling was necessary due to ongoing infrastructure projects in Argungu, including road dualisation, as well as other logistical considerations.
Thanking the public, stakeholders, and participants for their understanding and cooperation, the deputy governor said, “The state government is committed to hosting an exceptional festival that highlights Kebbi’s rich cultural heritage,”
He added, “Let us continue to work together to ensure a brighter future for Kebbi State while celebrating the traditions that make our community unique”.
