President Bola Tinubu has vowed to equip operatives of the proposed state police and newly established forest rangers with arms to tackle Nigeria’s persistent security challenges, including terrorism and banditry.
Speaking during the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, the President emphasized his administration’s commitment to restoring safety across the country.
“We are going for state police. We will do forest rangers. We will arm them. We will defeat those terrorists and bandits. We must do that,” Tinubu declared.
The announcement comes in response to a recent surge in violent attacks and criminal activities that have caused widespread insecurity. Tinubu assured that local police forces would be established in states to strengthen law enforcement and community protection.
While some stakeholders have expressed concern about potential misuse of state police by governors, the National Assembly has expressed support for the creation of the local forces, signaling a unified approach toward enhancing national security.
The President’s remarks underscore his administration’s resolve to tackle decade-long security threats and provide Nigerians with safer communities.
