In a move aimed at supporting the media industry, President Bola Tinubu said his administration will address tariffs affecting newspapers and broadcasters to enhance their capacity to inform and educate Nigerians.
The President made the announcement on Friday at the State House, where he hosted leaders of Nigeria’s media sector, including the Nigeria Press Organisation (NPO), Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), Nigeria Guild of Editors, and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Tinubu commended journalists, editors, and media owners for their role in keeping citizens informed and for providing employment to thousands of Nigerians. He also reflected on the challenging decisions his administration had to make to stabilize the economy, noting that effective leadership requires acting decisively in critical moments.
“We had to save the nation and bring it back from the brink. Today, I can stand proudly and say we have achieved that”, he said.
On media concerns regarding tariffs, the President added, “We discussed tariffs this afternoon. I will review any areas that need correction to ensure the industry is supported”.
He also encouraged the media to continue holding all tiers of government accountable while promoting development and good governance, highlighting that federal reforms have made additional resources available to states and local governments.
