President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate withdrawal of police personnel assigned to guard Very Important Persons (VIPs), ordering that the officers be redeployed to core policing functions nationwide.
The directive was issued during a high-level security meeting at the State House, attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the move aims to reinforce frontline law enforcement and address escalating security threats across the country.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police officers currently providing security for Very Important Persons in the country. Henceforth, police authorities will deploy them to concentrate on their core police duties,” Onanuga said.
The directive follows a recent surge in abductions and security challenges nationwide, prompting renewed pressure on security agencies to intensify operations and restore public confidence.
