In response to the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, President Bola Tinubu, has sent Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to the state to oversee federal support and engage with affected communities.
Shettima’s visit, scheduled for Wednesday, aims to reassure parents and guardians that the government is committed to securing the safe and prompt return of the kidnapped students, and will include consultations with local authorities, security operatives, and community representatives to coordinate rescue efforts and strengthen measures to prevent future abductions.
The President also conveyed his condolences to the military for the loss of gallant soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who fell while on active duty combating insurgents in Borno State. Fully briefed by military authorities, Tinubu expressed deep concern over the attack, noting that prior intelligence had warned of potential bandit activity in the area.
According to his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for his proactive measures to avert the kidnapping. He emphasized that the effectiveness of security forces relies heavily on community cooperation.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes. I am also pained that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State”. the President said.
He further called on community leaders and citizens to share actionable intelligence that can aid security agencies in preventing further attacks.
