President Bola Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to urgently reassess security strategies to protect citizens amid escalating threats from kidnapping and terrorism.
“So that you don’t leave people exposed, NSA and DSS should form a committee, provide further information, and review the instruction”, the President said, emphasizing that the directive must be executed without delay given the seriousness of current security threats.
He stressed the need to deploy all available forces, noting: “We face challenges of kidnapping and terrorism. Some of our people are exposed, and we must make exceptional provisions for them.”
Tinubu also highlighted the role of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and instructed the NSA to consider arming forest guards. “Civil defence are equally apt, and I want to know from NSA about arming our forest guards too. Take it very seriously”, he added.
On livestock reforms, the President tasked Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to convene the National Economic Council (NEC) to identify villages or grazing reserves that can be rehabilitated into ranches and livestock settlements.
“Livestock settlement must eliminate conflicts and turn reform into economically viable development. The opportunity is there; let’s utilize it,”, Tinubu said, reiterating that land ownership rests with the states and that NEC should guide the process according to constitutional provisions.
He concluded by emphasizing that these measures are aimed at ensuring national security and economic growth, turning conflict-prone areas into productive zones, and safeguarding the welfare of citizens across Nigeria.
