President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as new chief executives for Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies.
The nominations were transmitted to the Senate for confirmation, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu requested an expedited screening and confirmation process to ensure seamless leadership transition at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Eyesan was nominated as Chief Executive Officer of the NUPRC. She is an Economics graduate of the University of Benin and brings nearly 33 years of experience from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its subsidiaries.
She retired in 2024 as Executive Vice President, Upstream, and previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy between 2019 and 2023.

Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed was nominated as Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA. Born in 1957 in Gombe State, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Mohammed was recently appointed as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy and has held several senior positions in Nigeria’s energy sector.
His career includes serving as Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company, as well as chairing the boards of the West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries, and NNPC Retail.
He also served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Gas and Power Directorate, where he provided strategic leadership for major gas projects and policy frameworks, including the Gas Masterplan, the Gas Network Code, and contributions to the Petroleum Industry Act.

According to the Presidency, both nominees are seasoned professionals with extensive technical and managerial experience in the oil and gas industry.
If confirmed by the Senate, they are expected to play key roles in strengthening regulatory oversight and advancing reforms in Nigeria’s petroleum sector under the Petroleum Industry Act.
