The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking deliberate and strategic steps to lay a solid foundation for long-term economic growth and shared prosperity.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, following a courtesy visit by members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027.
Speaking during the meeting, Idris noted that the administration has implemented bold and, at times, difficult reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and placing the country on a more sustainable development path.
“The decisions taken by this administration were necessary to stabilise the economy and restore confidence,” the minister said. “Today, early signs of recovery are beginning to emerge across key sectors, and what we are witnessing are the foundations for long-term growth and shared prosperity.”
He stressed that Nigeria’s improving economic outlook must be safeguarded through unity, responsible communication, and collective support for national policies.
The minister warned that distorted or misleading narratives about the country undermine investor confidence and slow national development. “We must speak positively and truthfully about Nigeria. When we project stability and unity, we attract investment and create opportunities for our people,” he added.
Idris commended the GAT 2027 group for its civic engagement and sense of responsibility in promoting accurate public information. He also welcomed the group’s proposal to partner with the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Orientation Agency in the areas of public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication.
According to the minister, advocacy groups play a vital role in ensuring that government policies reach the grassroots, describing effective communication as essential to national stability and development.
He further reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to building an inclusive nation that works for all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or background. Idris assured the delegation that the ministry would continue to collaborate with credible organisations to ensure the dissemination of accurate and timely information.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of GAT 2027, Prof. Ochugudu Ipuele, said the group’s visit was to formally brief the minister on its activities and to express solidarity with his mandate.
“We are here to support your responsibility of informing Nigerians, clarifying government policies, and taking accurate information to the grassroots,” Ipuele said.
He added that the group remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s policies by countering distorted narratives, particularly during election periods, and by engaging young people across the country.
“Our organisation is prepared to respond in real time to false or misleading information in the public space and to actively engage the youth in promoting national development,” he stated.
