In a significant diplomatic engagement, President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door session with Sierra Leone’s President Julius Bio at the Aso Rock Villa on Friday night. The meeting, which commenced at 9:00 pm, was a private discussion between the two leaders, underscoring the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
According to sources, President Bio, who recently assumed the Chairmanship of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Authority of Heads of State and Government, was accorded a ceremonial reception by the Presidential Brigade of Guards at the forecourt of the Aso Rock Villa. He was subsequently ushered into President Tinubu’s office for the private meeting.
This meeting comes four months after President Bio took over the ECOWAS chairmanship from President Tinubu, who held the role for two years from July 2023 to July 2025. During his tenure, President Tinubu played a key role in promoting regional integration and stability within the ECOWAS bloc.
The talks between the two leaders are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, enhancing regional stability, and exploring areas of mutual interest within the ECOWAS framework. The meeting underscores the commitment of both countries to fostering a robust partnership and promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
The engagement also provides an opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on pressing regional and international issues, including security challenges, economic development, and integration efforts.
