Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday received the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for high-level talks.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, was attended by top Nigerian officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, alongside other senior government figures.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, discussions between both leaders focused on issues of shared interest, with particular attention to strengthening cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Although details of the deliberations were not made public, there are indications that the talks may be linked to ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations, especially in the areas of regional security, trade, and economic development.
The meeting comes as both Nigeria and Chad continue to play critical roles in stabilising the Lake Chad Basin, a region affected by insurgency and cross-border threats. Their collaboration has remained central to addressing security challenges that cut across national boundaries.
Thursday’s engagement also preceded President Tinubu’s trip to Jos, Plateau State, where he is scheduled to commiserate with victims of recent attacks.
Nigeria and Chad have maintained longstanding ties, working jointly through regional frameworks to combat insurgency and promote stability across the region.
