President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, for securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles defeated Egypt 4–2 on penalties on Saturday after regulation time ended goalless, overcoming the seven-time African champions to finish third in the tournament.
In a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the team for bouncing back from their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco and ending the competition on a strong note.
Tinubu said the players demonstrated resilience, determination and the enduring Nigerian spirit by overcoming disappointment to claim a podium finish.
According to the President, the team’s response to adversity reflected the can-do attitude associated with Nigerians.
“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” Tinubu said.
“However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”
The President added that Nigerians would be proud as the players receive their bronze medals in Rabat, describing the achievement as worthy of celebration.
“This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” he said.
