President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent killings in Plateau State and Kaduna State, directing security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend those responsible for what he described as “barbaric and cowardly attacks.”
The President’s reaction follows the deadly assault in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, where about 28 people were killed, as well as a separate attack on Kahir village in Kagarko that claimed several lives and involved the abduction of wedding guests.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the Kaduna incident as a direct assault on the nation’s shared values and humanity.
“The killing and abduction of innocent wedding guests in Kaduna is an affront to all that Nigeria stands for,” the statement said.
The President instructed security operatives not only to pursue the attackers relentlessly, but also to clamp down on those spreading false information capable of escalating tensions and putting more lives at risk.
He reaffirmed that security agencies are actively responding to the situation, while emphasizing that public cooperation remains essential to restoring calm and safeguarding communities.
Tinubu also urged residents in affected areas to comply with evacuation directives, relocation measures, and all security advisories issued by authorities, stressing that such cooperation can save lives.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” the President stated.
He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for efforts to stabilize the situation in Plateau, and praised Governor Uba Sani for supporting rescue operations and containment efforts in Kaduna.
“I assure the people and governments of the two states of my full support. I commiserate with the families of those killed and pray for the quick recovery of the injured.”
The President further disclosed that the Federal Government is strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies through the acquisition of advanced surveillance and response equipment designed to improve real-time tracking of criminal elements across the country.
“Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies track and smash criminals, in real time, wherever they are.”
Meanwhile, Governor Mutfwang has assured residents that Plateau will not be broken by violence, despite the tragedy in Jos.
“Plateau State will not succumb to fear or intimidation. We shall emerge stronger, united, and resolute in our commitment to peace.”
He described the attack as a senseless assault on innocent, law-abiding citizens who were caught unprepared.
The killings have continued to draw nationwide outrage, with prominent opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso calling on authorities to move beyond condemnation and implement decisive measures to halt recurring violence.
Their reactions reflect growing public demand for stronger security interventions and lasting solutions to repeated attacks affecting communities across the country.
