Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, commended President Bola Tinubu for his strides in addressing critical health challenges and retaining top medical talent, aiming to make Nigeria a hub for quality healthcare.
Speaking at the fourth attestation ceremony of the 2025 MBBS class of the Nile University of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja, Idris highlighted the importance of nurturing local medical professionals to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
He noted that President Tinubu’s initiatives are gradually reducing Nigeria’s brain drain, ensuring that highly skilled doctors and specialists remain in the country rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
“These efforts are designed to ensure that Nigerian healthcare is world-class,” Idris said. “Illnesses like cancer and other critical conditions, which traditionally forced Nigerians to travel overseas for treatment, can now be managed locally with improved facilities and expertise.”
Idris further emphasized that the attested students represent the next generation of medical professionals who will contribute significantly to enhancing healthcare delivery nationwide.
He also pointed to the government’s ongoing investments in medical infrastructure, research, and technology as key drivers for making treatment affordable, accessible, and of international standard.
“The commitment of President Tinubu’s administration is visible in policies that support medical education, continuous professional development, and the expansion of specialized care within Nigeria.
“The future of Nigerian healthcare depends on our ability to retain talent, provide modern facilities, and ensure that citizens can access quality care without leaving the country”, Idris added.
He urged the new doctors to use their knowledge and skills to serve the nation diligently, assuring them that the government is providing the environment and resources necessary for them to thrive and make a meaningful impact on public health.
