President Bola Tinubu has called on participants in the Federal Government’s National Health Fellowship Programme to play a leading role in strengthening healthcare delivery across Nigeria, while assuring them of continued government support for their professional growth.
The President gave the charge in Abuja during a national summit that brought together traditional and religious leaders to discuss strategies for improving the country’s health system.
Tinubu described the fellows, drawn from all 774 local government areas, as key contributors to the government’s healthcare reform agenda, noting that their skills, energy, and community presence would help bridge service gaps and improve access to care nationwide.
He emphasized that his administration is committed to creating opportunities that will enable young health professionals to build meaningful careers and contribute to national development. According to him, the fellowship programme reflects the government’s broader vision of empowering competent young Nigerians to take on leadership roles and drive progress in critical sectors.
The President also urged the fellows to work closely with traditional and religious leaders, stressing that community institutions remain vital partners in promoting public health awareness, strengthening trust, and ensuring the success of government initiatives.
He noted that improving healthcare requires collaboration at all levels, adding that the government remains focused on building a system that delivers quality and accessible services to all citizens.
Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammed Ali Pate, commended the President’s leadership and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ongoing reforms. He also presented the 2025 State of Health Report, which he said would guide policy decisions and strengthen collaboration between government and community stakeholders.
The summit was attended by prominent traditional rulers and religious leaders from across the country, who pledged their support for efforts aimed at achieving universal health coverage and improving national health outcomes.
