President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on participants of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 33 to take a leading role in strengthening inclusive governance and accelerating Nigeria’s national development.
The President gave the charge on Thursday while receiving the senior course participants at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a productive, peaceful, and prosperous nation by fully harnessing Nigeria’s human, material, and intellectual resources.
“It is our joint responsibility to ensure that this nation is productive and governed inclusively,” President Tinubu said in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
The President emphasized the importance of resilience, patriotism, and strategic planning in the pursuit of national progress. He stressed the need to invest in human capital, promote industrial growth, and expand economic opportunities.
“We must look further into the horizon, train our people, develop our economy, and promote industrial development,” he stated.
Tinubu assured that his administration would continue to empower defence and military institutions, equipping them to produce highly skilled officers capable of safeguarding Nigeria’s security and strategic interests.
He commended the National Defence College for its research-driven contributions to national policy and strategic thinking.
“We must develop future strategic leaders with the knowledge and analytical capacity to strengthen national power,” he added.
The President also praised the Course 33 participants for their dedication, professionalism, and service throughout the programme. He acknowledged receiving their research paper titled ‘Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security by Year 2040’ and pledged that the recommendations would be thoroughly reviewed.
On the long-delayed development of the College’s permanent site, initiated in 2010, Tinubu appealed for continued patience while his administration works toward a solution.
Earlier, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, highlighted that the NDC—established in 1992—remains Nigeria’s premier institution for strategic military education.
He noted that Course 33 included 99 participants drawn from the Armed Forces, Police, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, along with 23 international participants from Africa, Asia, and South America.
