President Bola Tinubu on Thursday swore in the new leadership of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), including Chairman, Ayo Omidiran and 37 commissioners representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), at the State House, Abuja.
Omidiran succeeds Muheeba Dankaka, who served as Executive Chairman for five years.
The swearing-in was conducted in a single batch, with the Assistant Director of Media in the Office of the President, Oche Egwa, reading the citations of all appointees before they proceeded for a presidential handshake.
The FCC, established under Act No. 34 of 1996 and Sections 14 and 153 of the 1999 Constitution, is tasked with ensuring equitable distribution of public offices and socio-economic resources across Nigeria’s federating units, and enforcing compliance with the federal character principle in public institutions.
The new leadership is expected to strengthen the commission’s role in promoting fairness, transparency, and inclusion in federal appointments and resource allocation nationwide.
