Actor Timini Egbuson has scored a major cinema milestone as his latest film, Love and New Notes, pulled in N106 million during its opening weekend.
The romantic drama, directed by Kayode Kasum, premiered in cinemas on February 13 and has since emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2026 so far.
According to distributor FilmOne Entertainment, the film set multiple records within days of release. These include the biggest opening weekend of 2026, the highest single-day gross for a 2026 release, and the top-grossing film of the weekend.
In a statement celebrating the performance, FilmOne thanked audiences for their support, noting that the film “did not just open in cinemas; it kicked the door down.”
Reacting to the achievement, Egbuson expressed gratitude to fans and collaborators. “All the glory must be to the Lord. Woke up to the best news,” he said, urging supporters to continue spreading the word about the film.
Love and New Notes is set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s 1984 currency change. The story explores themes of love, ambition and personal growth during a period of economic transition.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Odunlade Adekola, Sophie Alakija, Eniola Badmus, and Toluwani George.
With its record-breaking debut, the film has positioned itself as one of Nollywood’s early commercial standouts for the year, as industry watchers track whether it can maintain momentum in the coming weeks.
