Nigerian gospel artist Tim Godfrey has penned a powerful open letter to people who have been labelled, judged, or misunderstood, especially within religious spaces.
In a heartfelt Instagram post titled “Open Letter to the Labeled,” the award-winning singer drew from his personal experiences, reflecting on times he had been criticised or misjudged for his appearance and artistic style.
Godfrey reminded his followers that Jesus never labelled anyone, choosing instead to love and embrace people regardless of their background or flaws.
“To the one religion judged before hearing your story… I know what it feels like to be labelled,” he wrote. “Jesus never labelled people. He loved them. He sat with the broken, touched the untouchable, and called the forgotten family.”
He quoted Romans 8:38-39 and Titus 3:5 to emphasise that nothing can separate humanity from God’s love and that salvation comes by mercy, not self-righteousness.
The singer further encouraged individuals who feel outcast or unworthy, those with tattoos, unconventional hairstyles, or unique self-expression, reminding them that grace is not dependent on appearance or religious conformity.
“You don’t have to clean up to come to Him,” Godfrey said. “You come to Him, and He does the cleansing through love.”
The gospel star also announced that his upcoming project, “No Label,” set for release on October 31, 2025, goes beyond music. He described it as a “sound, a cry, and a movement” — one that celebrates freedom, authenticity, and unconditional grace.
“No Label isn’t just music, it’s a message,” he added. “A reminder that grace has no dress code and that the finished work of the Cross still covers every story, every scar, every soul.”
Godfrey concluded by assuring those who have felt pushed away by religion that God’s love remains constant, saying:
“Jesus didn’t come for the perfect; He came for the real. And if you’ve ever been pushed away, know this, He’s still reaching for you.”
