A Lagos resident, Osarobo Odigie, has initiated legal action against popular TikTok personality Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, demanding N395 million in damages over allegations of defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy.
The legal move was disclosed in a pre-action notice dated March 10, 2026, issued by Odigie’s lawyers from the law firm FA Garrick & Co. The letter, signed by Bola Osineye, outlines events said to have taken place in the early hours of January 6, 2026, at Folixxx Lounge in the Lekki area of Lagos.
According to the claimant’s legal representatives, Odigie visited the lounge to purchase food when an incident involving the social media influencer occurred near the cashier area.
The lawyers claim their client was startled by a loud outburst from Hamzat while she stood at the counter. They allege that the influencer approached her and instructed her to remain silent during the exchange.
The letter further states that when Odigie asked Hamzat to lower his voice in the public setting, the situation escalated. Her legal team alleges that he responded with verbal insults, including Yoruba curses.
The claimant’s lawyers also accuse Hamzat of recording the confrontation without her permission. They say the footage was later shared across several social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp.
According to the legal notice, the video quickly circulated online due to Hamzat’s large following, leading to widespread public reactions.
Odigie claims the viral post subjected her to ridicule, cyberbullying, and threats from online users. Her legal team says the situation has caused her emotional distress and concerns about her personal safety.
As part of the legal demand, the claimant is seeking financial compensation broken down into several categories. These include N200 million for alleged defamatory publication, N100 million for emotional trauma and damage to reputation, and N75 million for distress linked to cyberbullying and threats. An additional N20 million is requested to cover legal costs.
Beyond monetary compensation, the claimant is also demanding the immediate removal of the video and related content from all platforms where it was shared.
Her lawyers are further requesting that Hamzat publish a clear public apology on his social media pages and in two national newspapers.
Although Hamzat reportedly issued an apology on January 9, acknowledging that his reaction during the incident was out of character, the legal notice insists further steps must be taken.
The claimant’s legal team warned that if their demands are not met within seven days, they will proceed with formal legal action in court.
