Nigerian TikToker Olaoluwa Segun has opened up about his detention at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti, describing it as the worst experience of his life.
Segun was arrested after Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa filed a petition against him for including her in a viral list of celebrities he falsely claimed were living with HIV.
Amusa swiftly debunked the allegation, clarifying that her 2019 post about HIV was strictly for awareness and not a personal confession. She vowed to make Segun a “scapegoat” for spreading damaging rumors.
Speaking in a video released on Tuesday, Segun recounted the ordeal he faced while in detention.
“I was locked up in Panti for two days after I honored the police invite over Dayo Amusa’s petition against me. This was the worst experience of my life after the death of my mum,” he said.
He explained that upon entering the cell, he was ordered to prostrate by other inmates. The conditions, he noted, were inhumane—four pit latrines without doors, an uncovered window swarming with mosquitoes, and a stench that made it feel like “sleeping inside a toilet.”
“There is no furniture in the cell. We were 60 people, all sleeping on cold tiles,” Segun added. He also claimed that fellow inmates told him the cell was the same one that once held singer Naira Marley during his arrest.
Segun said he was spared harsher treatment only because one of the cell leaders recognized him from TikTok and offered protection.
Despite the harrowing experience, he expressed gratitude to Dayo Amusa for eventually forgiving him. “If not, I would have stayed there much longer,” he said.
The incident has sparked renewed debate on the dangers of misinformation, online defamation, and the legal consequences of spreading false claims about public figures.
