OGC Nice players Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga are actively exploring moves away from the club following a severe and troubling fan ambush at the team’s training facility. Reports indicate that multiple Ligue 1 clubs are showing immediate interest, particularly in the Nigerian forward, ahead of the January transfer window.
The turmoil began after Nice’s 3-1 defeat to Lorient in late November. Approximately 400 angry fans confronted players and officials at the training ground, leading to physical and verbal abuse.
Nigerian striker Terem Moffi, Ivory Coast midfielder Jeremie Boga, Sporting Director Florian Maurice, and Jonathan Clauss were specifically targeted.
The club confirmed the victims were subjected to “multiple spitting and hitting” and verbal abuse as they exited the team bus. Prosecutor Damien Martinelli confirmed an investigation has been opened for aggravated assault.
Reports suggest Moffi was specifically targeted after being seen laughing and joking with Lorient president Loic Fery after the defeat, a connection stemming from his time with Les Merlus.
The 26-year-old striker has been on sick leave since the incident due to the physical and psychological consequences, causing him to miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against Sporting Braga.
OGC Nice released a strong statement condemning the actions of the fans “in the strongest terms” and confirmed the severe impact on the players.
“Contrary to what has been claimed, several of our players and officials were directly subjected to physical (multiple spitting and hitting) and verbal abuse… Two of them are still suffering from physical and psychological consequences that prevent them from peacefully resuming the competition.”
Reports from Mohamed Toubache-Ter indicate that multiple Ligue 1 clubs are showing interest in Moffi, though the striker is yet to make a final decision on his future.
Boga is also seeking an immediate exit, with his agents reportedly making contact with Serie A clubs AS Roma, Fiorentina, and Napoli ahead of the January window.
