R&B singer Tems has opened up about the challenges she faced at the start of her career, sharing a story of being booed and harassed during a school performance.
Speaking in an interview with Big Boy TV, the Crazy Tings crooner recalled the incident, noting that she had expected a warm reception but was instead met with jeers and plastic bottles from the audience.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receive a standing ovation. But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” Tems said.
The singer explained that while the experience was humiliating, it did not deter her from pursuing music. She believes that sticking to her unique sound rather than conforming to popular covers or familiar styles may have contributed to early rejections.
Reflecting on her journey, the Grammy-winning artist expressed gratitude for staying true to her artistic vision. Today, Tems is celebrated globally for her originality and authenticity, proving that perseverance and self-belief can overcome early setbacks.
