Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shared the inspiration behind her latest song, Big Daddy.
In a recent interview, Tems described the track as a feel-good song that reflects a personal observation. She explained that the song was inspired by a particular type of person: someone who aims to appear confident and in control but lacks internal growth or substance.
“Big Daddy was inspired by an experience of a type of person. I would describe the type of person as someone who wants to look cool but doesn’t work on themselves internally; it translates to wanting control without adding value,” Tems said.
The singer first rose to international fame with her feature on Wizkid’s 2020 single Essence, which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 following a remix with Justin Bieber. Since then, she has won multiple awards, including Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and BET Music Awards, and is currently signed to RCA Records in the United States.
