Nigerian singer Tems has surpassed South Africa’s Tyla to become the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
Tems currently boasts 38.3 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, narrowly edging Tyla’s 38.2 million.
The milestone follows a wave of recent releases and collaborations. Among them are “What You Need (Colour version)” and “Bounce Road Blues,” featuring J. Cole and Future. Her joint track with Dave, “Raindance,” has also contributed to the surge, continuing to gain traction across streaming platforms.
With the latest figures, Tems is closing in on the all-time record for the highest monthly listeners by an African artist, a benchmark of 40 million previously set by Tyla.
Beyond monthly listenership, Tems remains the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, amassing 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
The development underscores the growing global footprint of African music, as artists from the continent continue to dominate international streaming charts and expand their audiences worldwide.
