Award-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known globally as Tems, has reached a new career high with a record-setting appearance on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her track “What You Need” entered the chart at No. 93, marking her seventh Hot 100 entry. The milestone makes Tems the first African female artist to achieve that feat.
With the latest entry, Tems now shares the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 appearances by an African act with Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether.
The achievement adds to a growing list of historic moments for the singer. In 2022, Tems became the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 through her collaboration “Wait for U” with Future and Drake.
Her presence on the chart is set to expand further. J. Cole’s upcoming single “Bunce Road Blues,” which features Tems and Future, is expected to debut on the Hot 100 next week.
Tems’ continued chart success highlights her rising influence on the global music stage and underscores the growing reach of African artists in mainstream international markets.
