
Detectives of the Bauchi State Police Command, have arrested a 17-year old boy who allegedly attacked his younger sister and plucked her two eyes for money ritual purpose.
The incident, according to a statement made available by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Chief Superintendent of Police, occured on 17th October, 2025 at Bayan Dutse Village, in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
He said that six suspects including the prime suspect, Auwal Dahiru-Muhammad, were arrested in connection with the crime.
“On 17th October 2025, at about 1800hrs, one Muhammad Adamu ‘m’ of Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA, Bauchi State, reported at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 2000hrs, one Auwal Dahiru ‘m’, aged 17 years of the same address, attacked his daughter Rukayya Muhammad ‘f’, aged 7 years, with the intention of killing her and attempted to pluck out her eyes.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, Divisional Police officer (DPO) Soro Division immediately dispatched to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. At the same time, the victim was quickly evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical treatment.
“A preliminary investigation’s findings exposed that a 7-year-old girl, Rukayya Muhammad, tragically lost her eyesight permanently after her elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, removed both of her eyes for a money ritual in a desperate attempt to gain wealth. The incident occurred in Wailo town, located in the Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
“The victim’s father was interviewed, who disclosed that the suspect (Auwalu) lured his sister, who shared the same parents, into the bush, where he brutally attacked her and forcefully plucked her eyes.
“Unfortunately, a medical doctor (eye specialist) at the hospital confirmed that the young girl will never regain her vision for the rest of her life,” Wakil said.
He said that the suspects arrested in connection with the crime include: Auwal Dahiru ‘m’, (17), of Bayan Dutse, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA; Mohammed Rabiu ‘m’ (19); Saleh Ibrahim ‘m’ (20);
Nasiru Muhammad ‘m’ of Soro town Ganjuwa LGA; Hassan Garba ‘m’ of Soro town, Ganjuwa LGA, Bauchi State and Garba Dahiru ‘m’ (43) of Soro town.
The Police Spokesman who said that during interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime, added that “investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind their heinous act” and to bring all individuals connected to justice.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a discreet, professional, and diligent investigation.
