Nigeria’s para powerlifting team has departed for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships taking place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18 — the first time the global event will be hosted on African soil.
The first batch of athletes left on Tuesday to cheers from supporters, while the second group is scheduled to depart today. The National Sports Commission expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness, reaffirming government support and Nigeria’s commitment to inclusivity and sporting excellence.
Nigeria, a dominant force in global para powerlifting, will join top athletes from around the world at the milestone competition, which underscores Africa’s growing capacity in disability sports.
