The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) witnessed a significant demolition exercise carried out by the Bauchi State Infrastructure Development and Maintenance Agency (BASIDMA) on February 11, 2026, targeting illegal residential and commercial structures within the high-tension corridor along the Zango and Yelwa communities in Bauchi.
As contained in a Statement, Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager, Public Affairs reveals that this enforcement action follows a series of stakeholder engagements and sensitization programs initiated by TCN throughout 2025, aimed at addressing the risks posed by buildings constructed within the statutory Right of Way (RoW) of TCN transmission lines.
TCN previously convened discussions with BASIDMA, community leaders, the Bauchi Urban Planning Authority, and youth representatives to underscore the dangers these structures pose to grid stability and public safety.
In light of these engagements, BASIDMA, which is responsible for regulating land use, controlling development, and managing infrastructure within Bauchi State, took decisive action to demolish the unauthorized structures. This move reflects the agency’s commitment to enforcing regulations and prioritizing public safety.
The demolition exercise represents a crucial step toward maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure while safeguarding the community from the potential hazards associated with buildings situated under high-tension transmission lines.
